Message from Human Resources

Hello, Staco!

I’d like to thank all of you for making me feel very welcome during my first few weeks here.  I consider myself very fortunate to have been given this opportunity to work with you all!

So let me tell you a little bit about why I am here.  As your new Human Resources Manager, I am here to ensure that you feel like your workspace is healthy, safe, and productive.  More than that, however, I am here to listen if you are having any type of issues at work.  My door is always open!

I’m very excited to be working here and to get to know all of you!

-Patrick Tan

Right now is a great opportunity to refamiliarize ourselves with our Staco Systems values. Staco Systems’ first value is:

Staco Customer Driven Solutions

We should all remember that as a business, our goal is to satisfy our customers.  To do so, we need to be adaptable, supportive, and responsive to their needs.  Here are some individuals that deserve recognition in finding Customer Driven Solutions:

  • We were having concerns with our welding supplier because they could not meet our lead time requirements causing us to potentially be late to our customers, DRS and Dutch Valley, for Series 50 switches. Elaine Killian found a new supplier, Gemini, who were not only able to meet our time requirements, they were less expensive and more responsive, too!
  • We were recently under pressure to service several customers with their Mil Spec Trackballs. It didn’t help that these Trackballs were obsolete!  Tim Conway pulled through and sourced a new trackball from Cursor Controls which allowed us to continue our focus on providing quality products.

Great job Elaine and Tim!

New Reseller

We have a new Reseller in Spain!  A new contract has been signed and CETA will be representing Staco in Spain.  CETA has been in the Aeronautics business for over 35 years and represent many companies alongside Staco.  With this new partner, we will be in a much better position to serve the local market for key customers such as Indra, Airbus Military and Naval.  The Spanish Industry has been depressed over the last decade but now projects are coming back to life.  Here is to new business and new orders!

Spring Cleaning

Is your workspace organized?  We’d like to remind everyone to please keep their workstations tidy!  You may or may not be familiar with “the Five S’s.”  These are a set of principles that may help you reduce clutter and stay organized:

  • Sort: Remove all items from the work area that are not immediately needed for the job at hand. This includes tools, documents, containers and equipment.
  • Set in Order: Everything left in the work area should have a designated place. There are many ways to designate locations, including marked lines on the floor, signs hung from above and labels on all storage devices. In an orderly workplace, everything is assigned to an area and is returned to that area when not being used.
  • Shine: Clean up the area to consistently make it look good. Everything that you need to do a job should be painted, fixed, refurbished or replaced. Everyone prefers to work in a clean area, and this will lead to improved morale and better productivity.
  • Standardize: Develop procedures that will keep things like new. Formal procedures for housekeeping and preventive maintenance are essential components of this principle. Responsibility must be assigned to people to develop and follow these procedures.
  • Sustain: Follow the procedures developed for maintaining an orderly workplace. This requires discipline not to cut corners. If the procedures are not followed, old habits will resurface, and the benefits that come from an orderly workplace will be lost.

So where do you begin?  The easiest way is to put things away when you have finished with them. Don't just place tools and fixtures on a table, but take them to the storage area. Getting things out of the way gives you more room to work, ultimately making things easier for you.
